When to Buy Anything

The Best Time to Buy Anything

Just as there are cycles in life, there are cycles in shopping as well.

There are certain times of the year when you’ll get better deals than  other times and knowing this can save you money!

When sales are at their lowest, you’re more likely to get a deal and   never hesitate to ask!  Most stores will be happy to give you an extra discount, but you have to ask.

For example, buying a new barbeque at the start of the barbeque season may not give you your best bang for the buck.  Yes, there may be sales, but in the winter months, when sales are at their lowest, is a great time to shop for one and ask for that extra discount.  You will likely get last year’s model at a great price!  This would apply to air conditioners as well.

Just think, when demand is low for something, it’s the best time to negotiate a sale!  Retailers need to clear out inventory to make room for new models.  Out with the old… In with the new!

It’s said that the best time to book a hotel room is a 4pm on Sunday, when everyone has checked out.  Always call the hotel directly—don’t go through the 800 number as that puts you into a clearing house that books rooms for hundreds of locations.  They don’t have the power to give you deals, but the front desk at the actual hotel does.  Don’t ask to speak to “Reservations” as they will put you back to the clearing house in most cases.  Ask to speak to the manager on duty.  He, alone, will have the authority to negotiate rates.  Of course, be nice and tell them that you’re ‘shopping around for rates’ and ask what he can do for you.

Best time to dine out could be Tuesday!  Most restaurants don’t receive deliveries on Saturdays and Sundays so Tuesday’s food will be the freshest all week!

If you’re in the market for a bicycle, call your local police department and see when they will be auctioning off the stolen, recovered and never  claimed bikes!

If you want a real deal on a car, head to the dealership on the last Tuesday or Wednesday of the month.  Dealerships are getting  anxious about meeting their monthly quotas!  Early afternoon is usually slower so you’ll get more attention and if you can wait, as close to year is best!  ALWAYS negotiate!  NEVER pay sticker price!  If you aren’t comfortable with negotiating, take my wife with you!  ;-)
